After following in the footsteps of Dian Fossey with a visit to the Volcanoes National Park, you'll fly from Kigali to Tanzania for a 5 day safari in search of the Big Five and the Wildebeest Migration.
This popular program is a private or Group tented safari driving through the parks to Tarangire , Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. In Rwanda, enjoy a private vehicle and guide as you depart Kigali and venture to Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park. One gorilla treks are included in your safari adventure.
Day 1: Arrival
You will be met and welcomed by our Company representative, who will transfer you to the home of Gorillas and he will brief you about your gorilla trek for the following morning. Dinner &Overnight at: Mountain gorilla hotel or Musanze cave!
Day 2: Gorillas Tracks
Take breakfast and report at 7am to the Parc National des Volcans Headquarters in Kinigi office for registration, briefing and other formalities. Then drive on the brim of Parc National des Volcans depending on the group or family of gorilla that you will be allocated to trek. Thereafter go through the park for Gorilla trekking. The time taken to look out for the gorillas will vary with how close they will be and it is unpredictable because gorilla tracking takes place in their natural habitats. The gorilla safari here commences at about 2000 meters above sea level in the upmost slopes of the Volcanoes. After tracking and encountering your assigned group you will spend one hour in their company before tracking your steps down the volcanoes. An en counter after a backbreaking walk is a worthwhile. Day 3 Golden Monkey Tracking
This day is set out for Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park. Entering dense stands of bamboo interspersed with open glades; you will make your way deep into golden monkey territory. Guides lead visitors to the habitat of groups of ‘habituated’ golden monkeys – monkeys that have become accustomed to human presence. Though viewing is kept to a maximum of one hour, travelers can get an up-close look at the golden monkey in its natural habitat. Adult monkeys frolic in plain view, feeding on bamboo leaves and leaping from perch to perch. Females carry their young, completely comfortable among onlookers.
Return to your hotel to freshen up and have lunch then go for the interesting trip to the local brewers to understand the chemistry of the process of brewing local beer from bananas. If you find the activity interesting enough you can join the women in squeezing the juice out of the bananas and drink a glass of the juice, understand how long juice takes to turn into alcohol after adding in sorghum flour, enjoy a glass of our local brew and weave a basket if you would like. These activities help with supporting the local community.
Day 4: Kigali to Arusha
Prepare and pack your baggage, take breakfast, you will drive to Kigali for a city tour in the Capital City of Rwanda. Kigali is an attractive city which some travelers refer to as the city of thousand hills for which Rwanda is famous for. The markets, the handicraft shops and the genocide sites are some of the main places that you must visit . If time allows, you will have to visit Nyabugogo market, the Franco-Rwanda cultural centre and a genocide memorial. You will later be transferred to your accommodation in Ruhengeri which is now known as Musanze , the main base town for Gorilla trekking in Rwanda .The road is fairly good and offers some spectacular mountain scenery of Rwanda’s hilly countryside. Later you will be transferred to Kigali airport for your Flight to Arusha.After arriving Kilimanjaro International Airport you will transfer to Arusha for Dinner and overnight
Day 5: Tarangire National Park
This morning you will travel from Arusha to Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire is one of Tanzania's largest national parks and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, and cheetah and up to six thousand elephant.Overnight in Tarangire National Park
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast you will travel from the Lake Manyara Area to the lush highlands where crops such as wheat, corn and coffee are grown. Travelling through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you might stop for a breath-taking view over the Ngorongoro Crater before you continue to the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti means “endless plains” in the language of the Masai and you will see the grassland savannah stretching to the horizon. Bizarre rock formations dot the grassy landscape where predators roam. Blue wildebeests, Thomson’s gazelles, zebras and buffaloes are on the menu… Through the high and open roof of the safari vehicle you will be able to enjoy the diversified habitats and landscapes of the park. You will arrive in the Seronera Valley for an evening meal and overnight stay at Lodge or Tented Camp
Day7: Serengeti National Park
The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. The areas that you will visit will depend upon where the migrating herds are to be found. Predators usually follow closely behind the trekking animals. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June they return up north. As the migration depends upon the yearly rains, the location of the herds might vary from year to year but guide will know where to see them best. You will spend another night at the Serengeti
Day 8: Serengeti-Ngorongoro
After Breakfast You will have a sunrise game drive in the park with a stop for brunch. Later you will proceed with a game drive en route to Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you will spend the night at the camp located just on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater at Camp or Lodge
Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater-Arusha
Today you will descend 600m (0ver 2000 feet) to the floor of the crater for a full day crater tour with a picnic lunch. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkey and elephant, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food. You will also have a late afternoon drive out from Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha for Airport transfer
